South Africa— Cape Town Firefighter Dies While Fighting Fire

A female firefighter died while fighting the heavy fires on the slopes of Table Mountain in Cape town that started on Sunday morning.

No property was damaged and the cause was of the blaze not known.
The 33-year-old had spent nine years fighting fire, and worked at the Roeland Street Fire Station.

Though not confirmed, the woman was suspected to have suffered from a heart attack. Mayoral committee member for safety, security and social services JP Smith says this concerning the incident.
"She died on the mountain this afternoon," he confirmed.
"She was rushed to Christian Barnard Hospital but could not be saved."
"There will be full brigade funeral due to the fact that she died while fighting fire.
"We have been in touch with family," said Smith.

On Sunday afternoon, fire services spokesperson Theo Layne said fire fighters would still remain on scene for "some considerable time" to continue dealing with hotspots surrounding the incident.
