The Comptroller of NCS in the 3 States covered by the Sokoto command (Sokoto, Kebbi, Zamfara), Mr. Nasir Ahmad, stated that the tip-off for the interception came from Kebbi state.

He also added that as at the time the tanker was emptied, the rice bags were found to be soiled with black oil (condemned oil as it is called locally), making it deadly if eaten.

“We have already arrested four suspects and they are currently in our custody while we are on the trail of the major owner of the contraband. We will soon get him to face justice,” Nasir said.

He also used this opportunity to encourage smugglers to look for other means of livelihood which is approved by the government, instead of ruining the country's reputation internationally, adding that this is the third time a tanker containing such illegal goods has been seized.
