Nigeria— Mtn Has Paid More Than 50% Of N330 Billion Fine Says NCC

Professor Umar Garba Danbatta, Executive Vice Chairman of Nigerian Communications Commission, stated that MTN telecommunications has paid N165 billion out of total of N330 billion fine charged upon the company in 2015 for SIM registration breaches.


The payment being made in installments was an agreement between the two bodies, he said. So far, the telecommunications has paid more than 50% of the whole fine.

When a delegation of MTN group visited the commission headquarters in Abuja, it was made known that the latest payment was N55 billion, and this was paid in March.

“So far MTN has paid more than 50% of the fine and that will translate to N165 billion. Yes it’s a whopping sum of money and they have not defaulted yet, and this payment they are making follows the terms of agreement we reached with them,” he said.
