"Nigeria will play friendly with the DRC," the minister told reporters after an interview with President Muhammadu Buhari in Abuja. But "strict measures" will be taken.

"The Congolese team arrives on a special flight, they will be controlled upon their departure from the DRC and will be on arrival in Nigeria," said the minister.

The Congolese government and WHO began a vaccination campaign on Monday in the Congolese town of Mbandaka, in the north-west of the country, to curb the epidemic.
